What is the Fremantle International Street Arts Festival (FISAF)?

The Fremantle International Street Arts Festival, or FISAF, is a multi-day festival running over the Easter long weekend. The festival has been running since 1999, when it was initially a busker’s festival hosted on the streets. Over the years it has transformed into a world class event with performers from all over the globe and international recognition. The event is completely free to attend and welcomes all ages.

When is FISAF?

FISAF runs over the Easter long weekend every year. This year the festival runs from Friday 18th April to Monday 21st April with activities commencing at 10am or 12pm depending on the day. Check out the full schedule here:

Where is FISAF?

FISAF is hosted through the streets of Fremantle across 9 ‘pitches’ (locations):

  1. FOMO Pitch: 10 William St, Fremantle
  2. The Esplanade Hotel Lagoon: Located within the Esplanade Hotel pool area. 46-54 Marine Terrace, Fremantle.
  3. The Esplanade Park Pines: Located under the pine trees at Esplanade Park. Marine Terrace, Fremantle
  4. Walyalup Koort: Located at Fremantle Civic Centre, William St, Fremantle
  5. The National Hotel Pitch: 98 High Street, Fremantle.
  6. The Old Courthouse Hotel: 45 Henderson St, Fremantle
  7. Sail and Anchor Pitch: 64 South Terrace, Fremantle.
  8. Ghost of the Numbat Pitch: Named after the iconic artwork that has since been removed from the area, this is located out the front of the Fremantle markets.
  9. Fremantle Prison Pitch: 1 The Terrace, Fremantle

Where is the best place to stay during FISAF?

What happens if it rains?

FISAF is an all-weather event. Public safety is our priority and should rain or adverse weather conditions be experienced there may be restrictions on certain areas or performances. Keep up to date by following us on socials. Facebook Instagram

Is it accessible?

The majority of the FISAF footprint has footpaths that are accessible to people using mobility aids.

FISAF have partnered with DADAA through its Access All Arts program, which offers Audio Description and Assistive Listening for selected FISAF shows.

Audio Description enhances live performance and visual art for people who are blind or vision impaired. An Audio Describer delivers a verbal description of the visual elements via a personal headset. Assistive Listening improves the experience for a person who is hard of hearing, sending the audio directly to your Bluetooth hearing aid via your phone.

Where are the information booths?

On Friday 18th April the information booth will be located on Esplanade Park.
Over the rest of the weekend the information booth is located on South Terrace between Sail and Anchor & Fremantle Markets.

How do I get to FISAF?

In keeping with the City of Fremantle Sustainable Events Policy, we encourage patrons to walk, cycle, or use public transport as much as possible when attending FISAF.
The greatest distance between FISAF venues is between Esplanade Park and Fremantle Prison, about a 750 metre walk that will take most people 10 to 12 minutes. Most venues are very close to each other, and will take most people a matter of minutes to traverse.
The Fremantle train line and many buses terminate at Fremantle Station, which is a 350 metre walk to the closest FISAF venue, National Hotel.
Transperth offers free travel for children under four years old, and people with a vision impairment and accompanying guide. For more information visit the Transperth website.

Can I park nearby?

Please note many of the parking bays in High Street, Market Street, and Henderson Street will be closed by traffic management for FISAF. The greatest density of City of Fremantle parking bays can be found in carpark 12B along Beach Street, with 212 bays. Please note there are no accessible parking bays at this location.

Are there any traffic restrictions in place over the weekend?

FISAF road closures will take place in the areas below:

  • High Street near National Hotel
  • Market Street near National Hotel and Sail and Anchor
